We had a similar problem with our irrigation pump, years ago. Would shut off at no certain times, of course, no one was there to catch it. 'Bout drove us crazy. Would always restart and run fine afterward. Finally one day, out of despiration, my dad took the fuel tank off, and found a piece of cellophane tape in it. Apparently the tape would float around in the tank, until it happened to get too close to the fuel intake port, and then get sucked in, blocking off the fuel flow. Soon's it shut off, the tape would float away, and everything would be fine again. Had a similar problem with a Farmall 200 that I got out of storage after a couple years of not running. The fuel tank was full of scale and dust particles that would block off the fuel intake. After a thorough cleaning, I forced a piece of car radio antenna (tubing) into the intake of the sediment bowl assembly effectively raising the intake point an inch or so above the bottom of the tank, this cut down on the dirt blocking the intake to the sediment bowl. Keep us informed, when you find your gremlin!
