Loader buckets are typically not as wide as the tractor. To plow through snow, you must clear a path at least as wide as the widest part of the tractor. Belly mount blades scrape snow, but won't PLOW snow. They won't handle snow deeper than a few inches because the front wheels have to roll through it first. Drifts here in the midwest are often higher than a belly mount blade can cope with. I opened a road three nights ago to get to two stuck 4wd trucks. I had to push through drifts that were over 3 feet deep in the center of the road.
