ground is the factor. but around here if the farmall m or w-6 cant pull 3/16 in 3rd gear something wrong with it. i remember when i was young and the j. d. salesman came to the field when dad was plowing with the w-6 and 3/16 jd #55 plow. he was trying to sell dad a jd tractor. dad put the tractor in 4th gear with the salesman and made a complete round with the plow. that was that , no jd tractor ever come to the farm. i even did plowing with that tractor and plowed in 3rd gear. still have the plow too.
