Don, would try the new pipe nipple. Sounds like your manifold was ok as the old pipe screwed out. Mine had been setting for some time with rust in it and there were no threads left on the pipe at all. With good sharp threads it should hold as Andy said. Only pressure is the muffler against it which is sort of a lever and the mufflers are kind of heavy. I put too long a piece of pipe in mine to start with and the muffler flap top hit the top of my shed going in. Gonna have to cut it off or raisse the shed.
