Wayne,The nut is right hand thread.You would also be amazed at the amount of torque you can get with a chisel and hammer.I dont know the proper torque spec.on this nut,I just tightend mine up as tight as I could with a 3/4 set and a large cresent wrench on the hand crank end.I hope I have answered your questions. good luck,Daniel M.
