Weird Corn

Just found out that we had some areas of corn on the back of the field that only had leaves at the top and no ears.. I know, it sounds like a palm tree. The seed was bought from my Uncle in IA, a dealer. They supposedly had some of the same thing out there. Now for the really weird part, he called his regional guy, and found out that they believe it was due to something in the fertilizer??????? Anyone else heard of this?
