you took it off at the wrong place. that brass fitting stays in pump and does not go with guage. i am not sure on the brass fitting , as never removed one to know whats behind it.can you remove the housing to remove the broken piece if it is indeed broken as i think just screw that one back in and try it to see if you get pressure on the guage.
