I don't know. Sounds pretty rough. I think some of the 686's came with hydrostatic drive and some came with gears. If it has hydrostatic drive and it needs repairs, you could be looking at a few thousand dollars for the repairs. The tractor might be worth $1,000 the way you described it. If it were me, I would keep looking (for an IH, of course). There are pleny of good IH tractors that don't neet a lot of work.
