HEres what I did once.I drain all the oil and let it sit with the plug off for a couple of days.I had it shedded of course.I took off the fill plug and reinstalled the drain plug,filled it with some kind of cleaner that my father stole....er borrowed from work.Let that sit for aday or so and drain it.LEt it sit a couple of more days with all the drain plug and filler plug off,just to dry it out some.Tehn filled it back up with gear oil to the proper levels and been fine every since.
