You H was originally 6V POSITIVE ground, but it can be grounded positive or negative, 6V or 12V, it is all according to how you want it to be. It sounds like you think it isn't charging. I'm not sure I'm a good one to tell you how to trouble shoot the system, but sooner or lated Bob M will show up and he will have a wiring diagram that it sounds like you need. If you search the archives for "polarity question", there will be a wiring diagram he posted for me. It is for a 53 Super H, but it will be real close for your 46 H, assuming 6V positive ground. Anyway, if you are using a test light, you should get something from the generator if you touch leads to the 2 poles. if not, the generator isn't charging and the problem isn't your regulator. You can get regulators from you friendly Case IH dealer or NAPA. The 4th post if for lights. If your generator is bad, pull it off and take it apart and shine up the commutator bars and replace the brushes and it will probably start charging like a champ. I did with mine and it puts out 12 amps at full throttle. When you change regulators, MOMENTARILY touch the gen to bat post with a jumper wire (tractor off with battery connected). This will tell the regulator which end is positive and which is negative. Good luck and post what other problems you run into...BB

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
