Same difference. You might not have the knuckle-snapping on turns but you'll still have possible issues getting smooth, consistent power to the implement.
I've never seen a short splined shaft with 540PTO splines. All I have ever seen are adapters that fit over the 1000PTO shaft. Was it custom made?
