When you start using your 300, you will soon come to appreciate the power-shift capability of the TA. The PTO is off in the foward position. It sounds like the latching paul at the bottom of the lever is broken. It is a hardened piece of metal 2 inches long. They will snap if not treated carefully. I got all wound up around a tree while bush-hogging and broke one of mine. Get a new or used one - don't try to make it.
