You say new gas line. Is it original style. If it is you need the style fitting with the ferrele attached to nut. You slip nut on line, push line as far into fitting as it will go , then tighten nut. That breaks the ferrele off nut and seals it up. If not original I have no idea what set up you have as people put on anything they can find in a hard ware store. The original style fitting with screen attached that goes into carburetor accepts the nut I described.
