Best to use the ferrule fittings. Teflon tape is OK to get you out of trouble when working on the weekend or when spares are not in stock. I replaced the fuel lines on my Farmall A, H and M tractors with the original type and had no trouble. You do need to be absolutely certain there is NO grit or dirt of any kind in the threads or on the ferrule and seat/cone. You should definitely be sure that the brass nut with the screen filter in it is fitted. We sometimes use our Farmalls to drive a chaff cutter and the last thing you want is leaking fuel! Can lead to disaster.
