You may want to try drilling them out if nothing else works. If you do buy left hand bits in the correct size,most times screws will back out when drilling them out with these. You should be able to buy them at a good hardware storeware store.Don't put phillip heads back in!
Oh yeah if you are worried about scratchs tape the area off first with a few layers of masking tape.
