Use the same weight you use for the crankcase oil, which depends on temperature conditiions - see other posts. Filter is actually designed to pull a certain amount of oil into the media - screens - fibers, whatever, above the oil reservoir, while engine is running. dirt particles are trapped in oily media, and when you shut it down, the oil dribbles back into the reservoir. Dirt settles to the bottom and "fresh" oil is pulled up next time you start the engine. From time to time, you should clean the media, although it is kinda "self cleaning." You should also clean out the air stack leading into the filter. It will collect a fair amount of dust and dirt too. I remove the top cover, clean it in a solvent and use a rag and a stick to clean the stack.
