Heres a detailed step by step procedure to diagnose the cause of Non Charging and in Para 5 how to determine if the problem is the Genny versus the Voltage Regulator, or manual Low High charge control in your situation....My Motor Test also tells how to bench test a genny
The Field circuit consist of coils of wire around a soft iron core on each side of the genny. Passing current through those field coils produces an electromagnetic field in which the armature rotates thus inducing voltage into the armature windings. Therefore the Field circuit must be continuous and cant work unil the FLD post has a ground either via a voltage regulator or a Low High manual control switch such as the LHDB switch on the dash which must ovbiously also be well grounded.
In my Seminars and Workshops I spend at least an hour explaining all this and cant cover all that here so post back any questions and read my procedure which may help
