Always hook + to + and - to - unless your jump starting a 6 volt system with 12 volts and then you should NEVER hook a 12 volt battery to the 6 volt one or it could be the last thing you ever see because the 6 volt battery can/will blow up in your face. Plus if the 6 volt battery is so low it will not spin the engine over good chance it will not have enough to run it either. If you still want to do it hook the ground side as in + or - the same and then the other side right to the starter. But check and double check that it is out of gear
