If the fuse gets loose or disconnects it would be like the alt was not limited by battery voltage. But it is controlled by the internal regulator. I do not know if it will save the alternator, I just do not want burnt wiring and fire. I say an alternator is cheaper than the tractor. The fuse protects the tractor. Put it in. Protect it from rain and weather to avoid it corroding an not working. Jim
