I was in and out of it a few times, never could get the gears to quiet down but I am waiting till spring to decide whether to try again. I am able to use the tractor now but don't really need to use it much till the snow finishes melting and the ground firms up so I can get out to the woods without making a mess. I did get another spare ring and pinion off ebay for $10 plus $26 shipping so if the noise i really getting to me I can try again. I have not had occasion to try it in 5th, but the noise is tolerable in the lower gears. I don't have to use 5th often. The 300 is a very nice tractor to use because of all of the handy features but it is a lot more work to work on than my old H was. Zach
