That's true, I've noticed when driving into a strong wind my rear facing cap tends to be blown partly closed and the exhaust curls down and into my face. Rear facing caps are a bite louder too. The exhaust noise/tone seems to bounce off the cap and come back toward the operator. But, a working Farmall is music to my ears even though I perfer the baffled mufflers to straight through, they have a cleaner, mellower tone.
