ok, I can help a little with the answers to some of the questions around the IHC truck engines.
The only truck flathead 6 that IHC used in the 40's was the GRD214 or GRD233. The black, red, and silver diamond engines were all valve in head. If Continental made a flathead 6, I am not that familiar with it, but also cannot dispute it. Now, their largest truck the KB-14 used a huge Continental 6, but it too was valve in head.
A KB-12 would not have a flathead 6 in it, or it is a KB1 or a KB2. The KB12 was a full blown semi tractor truck, not a pickup.
So, sounds like the IHC combines used a flathead 6, but it was continental, not the IHC GRD series.
