1 - Belt length it depends how your alternator is attached. Suggest you mount the alternator, cut an an old A- or 4L-section (1/2" wide) belt, wrap it around both pulleys, mark where the belt overlaps, then measure the actual length required.
2 - For a Delco on an H I recommend a solid mount. Arrange it so the alternator is JUST (1/8") clear of the rockerbox - otherwise the hood won't fit over. Then use an adjustable idler to set the belt tension.
3 - The old stock ammeter will work fine. It'll peg on the charge side after your first start the engine but it won't harm the ammeter. (My Super M's been pegging its original ammeter for 35+ years - it still works perfectly!)
4 - A coil marked "w/o series resistance" requires no ballast resistor. You should be wired direct to the ignition switch.

Tip: Use the SMALLEST pulley possible on the alternator! Otherwise the 1-wire alternator may not spin up fast enough to cause the regulator to "turn on" at startup.
