Staking is done to form a good seat. Often the new seats are not very good. Back in the day when we had steel needle and brass seat we would tap on the needle to form a good seat. With viton tipped needle this is not ordinarily done although some do it. I use a tip from an injection nozzle that has the same degree as the needle and tap it with a small hammer a few times then test it for sealing. I can't really tell you what to use because I just happen to have these available to me. Could stop at an injection shop and get an old nozzle tip from 806 up to 1586 and no doubt many other engines.
