That nut holds in the worm gear and the worm gear thrust bearing. If you have no other leaks on the steering gear seals, you are lucky. The nut is just pipe threads. Use some plumbers pipe dope on the threads. RectorSeal 5 is good. You can get it at any home center, such as Home Depot. The only advantage of Teflon tape is that it is not messy. The RectorSeal 5 is a Teflon emulsion. Of course when you remove the nut, all the oil will run out of the steering gear. Another thing. Many folks just use grease in the steering gears on these older tractors because it is so hard to stop all the leaks.
