Early 06 tractors had a different gear ration on the low side of the TA. Those gear sets are easy to tell apart because of the different number of teeth on the gears. After that there were two different gear angles used in tractors from the 706 and newer. Original gears had a 20° pressure angle. During the production run of the 56 series tractors the angle on most of the gears was changed to 25° pressure angle. These gears sets will have the same number of teeth so you have to look real closely at them to tell them apart. If you mismatch them you will end up with noisy gears.
The difference of the angle of the gear teeth is why most TA's come with a lower gear. That way the rebuilder can be sure a matching gear set is installed.
