Hour meters on a knob digital tach are powered through a oil sending unit on engine, no oil pressure, no hour reading unless switch sticks which they do. The touch panel data center reads hours off tachometer sending unit with flywheel turning. Reads by time regardless of rpm. Some of them would malfunction and read no hours for a while and then the little wheels would take off like crazy and run up a bunch of hours. Saw that a few times when they were new. Really zips but usually only runs up maybe 10 or 20 hours on the ones I came across.
