What you want is DOM tubing. DOM is drawn over mandrel.
Normal tubing is made from a flat plate that is curved into a tube, welded, and ground smooth on the OUTSIDE. There is a weld bead on the inside which messes up any idea of fit.
DOM tubing is solid, smooth inside and out.
Metalsdepot DOT com has 2.5", .250" wall DOM tubing in lengths as short as 12". It ain't cheap, but it's the easiest way to get from A to B in your case.
