Buy a resistor that goes in the coil wire. Add the rest of a coil wire onto the resistor and take it over to him. Nicely ask him if he would try this by replacing his regular coil to dist cap wire and see if it helps. He most likely will not notice any difference in the way his tractor runs. Worth a try.
