Yes Common. Farmers dragging the shifter fron 4th to 5th with no intention to match speeds wears the splines that couple the direct (fifth gear is not a gear) connection between input and output shafts. The splines are on the 4th 5th slider, and the input shaft. Both are probably in need of replacement. A worn tip and pivot on the shifter lever, and worn or bent 4th 5th shifter fork can also give grief, as can a worn pilot bearing between those two shafts (sometimes called an intermediate bearing.) Bates Equipment (Indiana) may have shafts and sliders. Used are hard to find as they are also usually in tough shape. Jim
