For plug wires, I have heard solid core wires are better for magneto equipped tractors that your M most likely has. My experience is that some brands of wires TISCO in particular (the type that you cut to the correct length and install the connectors that fit into the distributor cap), the connectors don't snap tightly into the dist cap. I haven't had them come loose, but it is disconcerting.

If you go this route, some people recommend soldeing the wires to the connector rather than relying on the little pointy thing piercing the insulator and seating on the wire. Next set of wires i will do that. You can achieve essentially the same thing by stripping the insulation off the wire and doubling it back under the connector before you crimp.

As for points and condensor, I think they are all the same except perhaps the Cub for IH tractors. Same with the condensor. Your friendly IH dealer can get you the right ones using the parts book. If you use NAPA or another auto parts store, I would suggest you just pull them out and take them with you. If the physical dimensions are the same, the replacements should work fine. I always get the right part that way. I sometimes don't if I don't carry the old one with me.

As a side note, if you are going to this much trouble, why not change the plugs, distributor cap, and rotor? A tune up kit with all the parts you need except cap and wires cost about $20, plus another $16 for wires and cap.
