Rusty, why do you say not to scuff it? I realize your experience on the subject, I'm just curious why lightly scuffing the tip with emery cloth would damage a tip that is designed to conform to irregular surfaces. I have done this twice, and have not had a problem. Once again, I realize your experience and don't mean to argue with you, just wanting to "pick your brain" so to speak.
