You are saying the left rear axle moves in and out take the cover off on the inside and tighten the nut that loads the shaft that should fix the problem. You say theres a gear on that shaft it will come off so you can get to the nut could be an easy fix. That shaft runs in 90wt oil so the bearing should be ok. Probably when they put the extension that runs the drive for fert or whatever it would have been used for they didn't have it installed correct.
