A 12 volt jump on a 6 volt tractor works fine - I've had to resort to it many times over the years, and still do on occasion. A few things to watch out for: 1 - Make sure you connect + to + and - to - on the two systems. That means if the 6 volt system is positive ground (which they usually are) and the 12 volt is negative ground (which is almost universal) the red jumper cable must go from the + post of the 12 volt battery to the frame on the 6 volt tractor. 2 - Wear safety glasses, and make the final jumper cable connection to the frame on the tractor being jumped. You're probably gonna get a spark when you do, and you want it as far away from either battery as possible. 3 - Disconnect one of the jumper cables as soon as the tractor being jumped fires. You don't want the 6 volt cutout relay closing while it's still hooked to 12 volts! 4 - So long as you observe proper polarity when connecting, neither system's generator, regulator, etc. will be affected 5 - As long as the 6 volt lights are turned off, they wont't be affected by a 12 volt jump. Above all, BE CAREFUL!
