Well I don't know just what you are wanting to do with it. The 986 is not much more than a 806 or 856 diesel. Same rear end just has the newer 400 series engine that has a little more power. You have to watch out on the 986's if it had a turbo added. If it has I would stay away from it. Rear end not heavy enough to handle the extra power and most of them are shot. A 986 will use less fuel than the 1086. If you are looking at a 1086, I would go ahead and check on a 1486 also. Pulling the same load a 14 will burn less fuel than a 10 or 986 with a lot less strain on the tractor. From looking at adds, most of the 86 series tractors run about the same price range. It's better to have a little extra HP than not enough and it feels better when driving a tractor not straining.
