I wasn't gonna go,(too far-1300 miles) but then a good deal came up with Dave Slater on an original '50M radiator that I needed real bad. So not wanting to risk freight damage on such a precious item, I decided to pick it up at the show. To really make the trip worthwhile I also decided to pick up a set of 13.6x38's and tubes from Miller tire while there, saving the shipping costs. That's an item that I had been putting off due to the damage it would do to my wallet, but decided now was the time to pull the trigger. Then Dave got wind that I was also looking for an 'M' hood and said that he had one for sale and would also bring it to the show. He also gave me a couple of manifold studs that I needed as a gift.
That was all I was going to get, but when you have a fistful of cash things can change very rapidly as you can see. A ball cap, a beautiful rebuilt H-4 mag with a 2 year warranty from Weaver's Magneto Repair, braided plug wires that Mr. Weaver made up for me as we shot the breeze, some asphalt looms, a rail seat, 4 front cowl dot bolts, and some vinal cut decals coming later by mail. Boy!, talk about the mother of all shopping sprees! lol. So it was Christmas in June for me.
Both radiator and hood are in very, very good condition as Dave said they would be. Dave had a camping permit, so did me the favor of picking up the tires and bringing them out to my pickup at the visitors parking lot. You can't find them any better than Dave. I also had the privilege of meeting his gracious wife. Both real good people.
I got all this done Wednesday and left around 6pm, and a got back to Mama Texas and home by 11pm Thursday with only 4 hours sleep at a rest stop along the way. Talk about a marathon trip!
