My brother asked his IH mechanic about replacing the parking brake band on his 684, the mechanic's reply was that the drum was probably damaged and would have to be replaced as well.
He suggested that my brother purchase an eye bolt, drill a hole in foot rest so the eye of the bolt comes up between the two brake pedals. He carries a pin with him and when wants to lock the brakes, he depresses the brakes and puts the pin through the eye bolt. Of course this only works if the brakes are not leaking and probably against the rules as parking brakes must be mechanical only. I am NOT endorsing this alternate parking brake setup but it does work.
