Ok, I am going to irritate some people and educate a few others, and bore some people to sleep with what they already know.
IHC mixed a lot of their own paint. It was an alkyd base paint. It also varied in tone and hue from batch to batch. While each batch was relatively close, they were NEVER identical. Read the history. Go to the Wisconsin archives. Read some of the old posts. Read some of the books on the subject.
In WWII, the IH Red was almost Orange due to the availability of some pigments (or shortage thereof).
Ok, with all that said, getting the color close, is truly OK! IHC wasn't too worried about EXACT match. The quality control of their paint factory was ok, not 100%. So, chose the color/paint brand you like. Use it. From my chair, it is more important that the paint used on a single tractor is consistent for that tractor. Changing brands or codes in the middle of a job will produce a crap result. Otherwise, STOP obsessing over an EXACT match for color. Get it close. Do a good job, and enjoy.
