Just got through replacing the hydraulic filter in my 454. It was only a year old, one of the "genuine CIH" ones, made in the UK, in which the element is wrapped in cardboard. Well, the cardboard was partly disintegrated and bits of it were all over the element, the screen, and the inside of the cover. Ick.
I put in a NAPA Gold replacement, which costs the same as the CIH one, but has the element in a metal can. I don't think I'll be getting any more from the CIH dealer.
