They can be changed without splitting. Helps to remove the belt pulley gear box or cover. Need to remove the hydraulic unit, clutch shaft and related parts to get it out. Then the 6 bolts that retain the input shaft housing and remove it. If all the bearings are intact a rag can be put under them through the belt drive hole to catch stuff as you remove. If you suspect loose parts in the transmission, removing the top cover and inspecting would give more piece of mind. Still need to remove the transmission input shaft housing.
