I am a believer in detergent oils, if the engine is fairly clean before switching. As far a preheating the engine, if you don't heat the oil first, preheating the engine does not help with the oil. It still will not pump any faster when cold. When I got my Cub last year, I went to detergent oil (10W30). since it had been used quite regularly before and didn't have much sludge in it. This fall I changed it and put in Mobil 1.I use it a lot in the winter for snowplowing, so the synthetic gets circulating faster.
