I was taking measurements on it and the clutch surface wasn't even with the pressure plate assembly on one side (this was when I screwed 3 bolts in the plate to compress the springs). Could this have been the noise I heard? I've never had to mess with one before so I don't know how they come apart or what part is the issue. Also, one return spring was a bit weaker than the rest, but it wasn't on the side that wasn't compressing fully.
