This sounds like a "Monroe" seat. Yes it was an option and was available on most of the major brands of tractors. Developed by the Monroe Shock Absorber Co. I have three tractors, Farmall C $ M and an Allis-Chalmers RC and all three have this type of seat. Yes it is far more comfortable to use all day than the standard seat (experience here). Phil
