I have an L503 just like that on my Farmall A. The one you have shown in the picture is missing the upper belt guard and the side chute. I bought mine new back in 1994 and it still looks new even though I have cut a lot of grass with it. I think Woods discontinued the L503 sometime as I looked in their catalog several years ago and didn't see it listed. It is a well made mower with a heavy metal deck. One thing I don't like about it is the small gauge wheels; because if you are mowing in the least bumpy ground the mower really bounces. I am amazed that the drive belt lasts as long as it has as I have only replaced it once. It twists and turns around all those pulleys when it runs. When I replaced it several years ago it did cost nearly $100 from Woods dealer (probably could have gotten cheaper somewhere else). Roger

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
