Cable should go into the clutch or center housing then through a special dowel pin in the front transmission wall. Then it hooks to a lever something like K-10 in the picture. # 8 goes in the shifting sleeve 7 slot and through pins moves a splined or teeth like shifter that can lock two different sized constant mesh gears. Lever forward is high range and back is standard range. Picture is a lever shift but just imagine the lever shift parts missing and the shift lever 10-K made different on the end to retain the shift cable. look through the belt pulley gear box opening to see what's there.
