I've had similar problems. For the radiator cap, first smooth the surface of the radiator where the cap goes with a wire wheel or wet/dry sandpaper (depending on condition) You can use JB weld if you have any really bad pits. The caps can be pretty rough too, so do a similar treatment. IF possible, get some gasket material quarter in. in thickness (from your local NAPA store). If not available, glue two thinner gaskets together with silicone. Cork is OK, but rubber type material is better. Side covers are a pain too. Smooth up the surface. I used RTV with the gaskets and that worked. YOu could even use just RTV as I doubt you'll be opening these up. Hope this helps.
