I do not know about the M+W and how that affects it, I think it should still work the same but I am not sure. The horizontal spring is just for pedal return, if it works and is not broken or obviously about to break I would keep it. I would try to adjust the brakes per the manual and if that does not help I would open it up and look at the bands for wear. Zach
