Growing up I never even knew that fenders or mufflers were options - we never had either. I only knew one other farm that had an H or M. In western Kansas people traded up pretty quick as they needed bigger implements to farm all of that treeless sand.
Funny thing, I used my M for a couple of days without the muffler. I ate so much exhaust I was nauseated. I also understand why dad and grandpa had hearig aids. Grandpa was only deaf to sounds in the same pitch as the engine on the 856 Farmall. Unfortunately, that was right where dads voice fell. He could hear anything but my dad.
