Try contacting Chris at MKiczek@aol.com. He's in the Medina area, and recently was selling a 300 Utility at a price that sounded mighty good. Apparently it will probably need a valve job soon - which was certainly reflected in the price he was asking. Decided it was probably too far for me to buy it, which maybe was a bad decision. You're close enough to get a good look if it's still available - and shipping costs won't eat you alive. I've got a 300 Utility, and have driven the 8N's big brother the Ford 640. The 300U has a great deal more power, and is what I'd call a serious tractor for someone with a fair amount of ground to work, or other bigger jobs. The Fords are definitely more handy for jobs around a smaller (maybe five acres or less) place, and that's probably why they're more in demand in some parts of the country. Out here in Colorado, the 300U prices tend to be higher than the 8N's by maybe 50 percent. The 300U is a good tractor, if you can find one that hasn't been abused, and if its size and capabilities are what you really want. They do tend to steer hard, especially if the steering gear hasn't been lubed lately. Other areas to be sure to check are the TA and hydraulics. Let us know what you decide.
