Let me add my two cents worth here. Get a copy of Neil Yerigan's How to Restore Tractor Magnetos, from Motorbooks International. Of course, if your tractor has a distributor instead of a mag, you might want it anyway due to the excellent explanations of how the charging systems, voltage regulators and wiring systems work. It is a must have for electrical work.
